Unmodifiable Commitment - Work in Progress

Michelle Todd, author of biography and memoir.

ABOUT

Michelle is now retired and is writing her first book, a biography about her aunt, a prominent educator who was born in 1918 and lived to be 105 years old. Her extraordinary and inspiring life story includes her challenges and struggles navigating racial and gender barriers and the renowned individuals she crossed paths with in her journey. She pioneered innovative concepts in curriculum development for educating children.

Michelle grew up in a family of female educators, except her mother, who had a small catering business in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the 1950s. In conversations at Sunday dinners, the adults spoke French and insisted she and her sister learn the language – unusual for an African American family. A somewhat mischievous child, her punishment was to go to her bedroom, which housed a set of children’s encyclopedias. By eleven, she read the entire set and began writing stories. By nineteen, she was married and the mother of two children. When the children started school, she enrolled in college and majored in chemistry and biochemistry.

In addition to writing, her passion is research, especially historic newspapers. She prefers to read nonfiction and enjoys watching historical or educational documentaries and programs. As a hobby, she finds joy in coloring, cultivating her creativity and providing her with well-being.
